We are aware that some patients might be understandably anxious about the Government’s recent announcements around the use of face masks/coverings in various public settings.
Unfortunately GPs are not in a position to provide individual risk assessments or letters of support for patients who feel that they should be exempt from wearing a face mask/covering.
The Government guidance suggests there is no requirement for evidence for exemption. It should be sufficient for someone to declare that they are eligible for an exemption direct with the person questioning them e.g. the bus driver. Some transport providers are providing evidence of exemptions themselves; see for example this information from First Bus and Arriva.
In settings where face coverings are mandated in England, there are some circumstances, for health, age or equality reasons, whereby people are not expected to wear face coverings in these settings. Please be mindful and respectful of such circumstances noting that some people are less able to wear face coverings.
